Lesson 2. Simulation from primitives 3d max 2018 tutorial
In this lesson you will learn basic actions with objects
simulating a simple computer desk and a couple of chairs.
Here, as in the first lesson, everything is extremely
simple, modeling from primitives resembles a simple child's constructor, so any
beginner can cope with it. But our goal now is not a table and chair, but
several interesting modeling techniques that you will learn about when creating
these objects. So, let's get straight on the points:
First, change the system settings. In 3d max there is a
measure of length - unit. You can specify what will be 1 unit (several meters
or millimeters), as well as specify in which units the program will display the
sizes of objects. Go to the Customize - Unit Setup tab ...
In the Display Unit Scale section, select Centimeters from
the Metric tab.
Press System Unit Setup and set that to 1 Unit = 3.0
Centimeters.
Now you can start modeling:
First we create a table:
1. Create a ChamferBox with the required parameters: Click
Create - Geometry , select Extended Primitives instead of Standart Primitives
then click on ChamferBox and create it in the perspective window. Set the
parameters:
Length 200cm; Width 100cm; Height 3cm; Fillet (bevel) 0.2cm.
Color choose brown.
2. Copy (move down with the Shift key pressed ), specify the
required dimensions (go to the Modify tab ), put the legs in place
3. Again, copy (move Shift ), moving closer to the center of
the table:
4. Now we need to rotate the object exactly 90 degrees . How
to do it ... at the top click the right mouse button (as indicated in the
screenshot), you get to the Grid and Snap Settings. Opposite the Angle, enter
5, 10 or 15 degrees. Further, if the button is pressed , then by turning the
objects they will be rotated by a degree multiple to the specified one. Those.
if you specified 10 degrees , then you can rotate the object to
10-20-30-40-50-60-70-80-90-100 and so on degrees. You can specify any number as
you like. I usually have from 5 to 15 degrees.
5. Now, with the Shift key pressed, rotate the box 90
degrees , again specify the desired dimensions and put between the two previous
boxes, to make the bottom shelf:
6. Copy our shelf up (move with the Shift key pressed ), in
the pop-up menu, specify the number of copies (Numbers of Copies) 3 or 4, as you
want. The type of copying is set by Instance.
After you have created copies of the shelves with the type
of copying Instance , you can scale one of the shelves , while the other copies
will be equally scaled. Try to reduce the thickness of the shelves.
7. Copy the side table leg to the other end:
Our table is ready in principle, but you can add a few more
elements (for example, an outgoing keyboard shelf) Now simulate the chair: Here
everything is the same ...
1. Create a Chamfer Box with the required parameters and
change the color:
2. Copy, resize, put in place the legs of 4 copies:
3. In the same way, we create a chair back:
Now one important point. Select the upper horizontal
partition of the chair back, in the upper menu, change the View to Local. This
change will allow you to move the object relative to its own local coordinates.
Now make 4 copies and the chair will be finished.
4. For convenience, we group all the elements of the chair.
To do this, first select them:
5. Now in the top menu, click Group - Group , and name the
group, for example "chair"
After you have grouped the objects, you can not change them
individually. But it is easy to create several more chairs, simply by copying
the group:
